This implies that change can happen just by changing the structure while believe the problem is community based and really much larger. There will always be special interests fueling the fire by encouraging hate and distrust. Perhaps even the AI that already exists on our network devices is part of the problem. We have to become a more community oriented society where we actually listen to each other and perhaps even compromise. Treating our politicians and their families poorly when the politics don't line up is leaving mostly just narcissists to run things. Many of the basics of both parties are pretty similar but neither side can stop long enough to notice they are fighting for the same thing.
Thanks, Linda. The premise is that by changing the system people will be more willing to listen to each other compromise. It's the winner-take-all system that pits us against each other so that there is no benefit to either side to work with, or listen to, the other 'team.' This type of change would need a lot of assistance to become reality.
But in the end we are still people and like any system it will eventually be exploited to some extent. We already have a very diverse government here in Minneapolis but they seem to be back flipping over each other to be seen as the most caring instead of just running the city. Most of the legislation I hear seems designed to divide instead of unite. Citizens need to be saved from citizens at all costs. Anyone not stepping in line may actually killing the planet or perceived as extremely prejudice. My parents had world War 2 unite them as a nation and I saw Vietnam start to divide us. It would be nice to not have to have something as big as a war unite us. We could have used the pandemic as a uniting factor but unfortunately it did the opposite.
Sorry to sound so negative because I do believe a smaller city council could be more productive and I really like the idea of no party affiliations on the city ballots. I just don't believe changing the structure of government can create a greater feeling of inclusivity.
