The Mpls City Council needs a few boomers with experience and common sense

Unfortunately much of the Democratic party has become too polarized and they preach no compromise. The philosophy is so strong that many do not listen or research, they are right, we are wrong, end of discussion. How does one convince someone that a candidate does not have our best interests in mind if they refuse to hear what we are saying.

let's try to stick to the facts; everyone comes to the table with her/his own set of values and moral imperatives. Cashman won by 177 votes. Jenkins won by 28. The next council election is an important one. Get to know your Ward candidates. Can't hurt; might help.

I used to think Ilhan Omar was just so-so. I lost any respect for her when she denigrated Kamala Harris for her joint efforts with Liz Cheney to defeat Trump. I believe Omar was a big influence on people’s choice not to vote over the Free Palestine issue and helped to lose the election. Unfortunately, there are wars and suffering all over the world, and it appears they will only escalate under this administration.

Im hoping local voters have realized that endorsements don’t mean much when it gets down to actually listening to constituents.

Katie Cashman shared her endorsement From, Omar the other day. I asked grok about this and here's what it had to say:

Ilhan Omar’s endorsement can boost visibility and support among progressive, Somali-American, and Muslim voters in Minneapolis, but it may alienate moderates due to her polarizing stances.

Omar has contributed to major legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act and secured over $40 million for her district, though often as a co-sponsor, not a lead author, which may limit perceptions of her influence.

Controversies around Omar include accusations of anti-Semitism over her Israel criticism and campaign finance issues, like payments to her husband’s firm. While debated, these could make independent or moderate voters hesitant to embrace her endorsement. grok.x.com

Thanks to Ilhan for publishing a list of Council Members who we should NOT vote for! It is imperative that Minneapolis voters select CM's that are moderate, display common sense, and have their heads on straight. Prime examples of that are MICHAEL RAINVILLE, LATRISHA VETAW, and LINEA PALMISANO! All three are strong on Public Safety, and have consistently supported issues that benefit Minneapolis residents and businesses vs. the far Lefties' pet projects that generally serve no purpose in bettering our great City!

We can make this change, with one ward helping another. A remake of the City Council is possible, to get to a group of members/ representatives, that actually allows progress, for all of us, to happen.

Five new pieces in the Minneapolis Times today. This one, below, provides a glimpse of what the majority on this current City Council is up to...all on our dime.

I agree that without a swift course correction, Minnesota is at risk of turning redder in statewide elections and could actually go red in the 2028 presidential elections. There have been many analyses showing how the far left is causing heavy damage to the Democratic brand, so I won’t repeat all of that here, but the leftists are doubling down and saying the left needs to left even harder. They don’t seem to get that they are a very small percentage of the electorate, and the majority wants nothing to do with their positions. Or maybe they do, because they don’t seem to have the confidence to stand alone as their own party.

At the 2024 Minnesota DFL state convention, there was much whining from far-left Ilhan supporters that some attendees were supporting Ilhan’s non-endorsed opponent, also a Democrat. This time around, Ilhan is endorsing a non-DFLer who is working to sabotage opponents who are actually seeking the DFL endorsement. Will we see similar outrage from the same people? I suspect not.

Lived in Mpls since 75. Uptown a disaster , no fun. Our taxes went up 20 percent. Lots of for sale signs. Maybe we’ll be next.

It's not complicated....10 of 13 current City Council Member's value system align with Omar's value system, unfortunately!

I don't seem to recall this concern from Minneapolis conservatives when Ilhan Omar disregarded the DFL endorsement in 2023 to endorse Andrea Jenkins. If you only complain when you disagree with the endorsements, you're just showing your lack of principles.

Hi Steve, Thanks for bringing this up. It's interesting that Andrea's challenger at the time, Soren, has now been endorsed by Ilhan. If I were to guess, her endorsement of Andrea had more to do with their personal connection than Andrea's positions on the issues.

Several of us believe that party affiliations do not belong in what should be the running of our city. They are neglecting our needs in lieu of creating what should be state legislation via a back door.

Impossible to effectively use the term "principles" for the DFL in the state AND in Mpls, SADLY, when they are involved in what essentially is abuse of power and straight up fraud related to the "endorsement process" in Mpls. The DFL, more broadly, may want to think about what the COST of these activities are, and the impact here in Mpls, and in the State and Country. It is not going to work out well, and it does not have to be like this.
